Behind a modest façade in Borgerhout lies a cute, colourful home. This is where Elmo, Laura and their little daughter live. The bright base – white walls, wooden floors, high ceilings – provides the perfect canvas for a personal interior, with a focus on authentic details and a colourful art collection.

Art as common thread
“Most of the pieces I discovered on Instagram. You come across illustrators and artists from all over the world, and a simple ‘like’ brings them closer. Often, I get in touch here to see if they have anything for sale. That’s how our collection has grown very organically.”

French illustrator Jean Jullien is one of his favourite artists, which you can see throughout the home. A print in the kitchen, objects from the Case Studyo collection in the living room, and even in their daughter’s room: it’s clear a collector lives here.

The heart of the home
In the kitchen, a white setup houses toys, cookbooks and – of course – a few artworks and accessories as eye-catchers. The simple combination of white and wood highlights the beautiful custom-made kitchen, designed by Laura herself, which forms a warm, central element of the home.

Toddler-proof
In their daughter’s room, a black shelf provides extra storage.

“We really like the system for toys. The compartments are large enough and the doors open smoothly, so our daughter can easily put her things away herself. Luckily, she does it very well, so the house is often surprisingly tidy for a home with a toddler.”

Continuing a tradition
Something else you find throughout the house? Kewlox!

“I grew up with Kewlox furniture all around. My father had a studio at home with shelves along every wall. My partner also knew the brand from her childhood, so it was natural for us to continue that tradition. With the wide possibilities, it often turns out to simply be the best solution.”

A place to work
The latest addition to their Kewlox collection is the orange desk.

“As a journalist, I often work from home. Since having a dedicated workspace, I’ve noticed I’ve got more focus than at the kitchen table.”

For the setup, they first visited the store in Antwerp:

“It’s really helpful to see colours and materials in real life. We created the final composition at home using the configurator. Again, it turned out to be the perfect solution for us: not too heavy, not too small, with a touch of colour and enough storage to keep everything neatly out of sight.”
